Radical Cystectomy and Ileal Conduit
Radical Cystectomy entails the removal of the urinary bladder, its adjacent organs, and local lymph nodes. In male patients, the procedure includes the removal of the prostate and the seminal vesicles; in females, it includes the removal of ovaries, fallopian tubes, uterus, and anterior vagina.
Radical Cystectomy and Ileal Conduit are well-described procedures used in bladder cancer treatment. Ileal conduit for urinary diversion is used after the Radical Cystectomy in urinary bladder cancer. Ileal Conduit makes use of a short segment of the ileum to allow urine to pass through the abdominal wall and empty through an everted stoma into a stoma collection device.
